SUMMARY: There's more to Snape's awful attitude, with a child included. Snape is linked to Harry in a way the young man could never imagine. What will be done?

Over the course of six months, Severus grew to enjoy having the ever-energetic James Potter around. There were even nights where they snuck to each other's chambers. To anyone that would watch them, they'd be seen as a late night rendezvous. That was not the case.

Severus was not ready for intimacy of the nature people expected of him. Perhaps in a few months, but not now. He simply enjoyed just being held by James while they talked of the future. How their summers would be spent. Things of that sort. Sex never really came up, except when the petting became a bit too heavy.

"Where will you be going for the summer?" Severus asked James because the other boy never really mentioned his family. James enfolded the raven-haired beauty in his arms.

"I'll be going to the boarding house I normally do. I haven't got family and I can't stay here during the summer. They close the building up and only the teachers can stay here." James sighed. He didn't want to leave Severus behind. He knew he'd miss Severus. He dreaded the finals days of school.

"I'm so sorry, it must be lonely there." Severus stated as he snuggled closer to James.

"It's not too bad, I s'pose, but it does get lonely. Most of the people are too busy trying to stay afloat monetarily.

"I think you should come stay with me. My parents wouldn't notice and we could stay together and you wouldn't have to stay at that place." Severus' voice showed unmistakable hope and insecurity.

"I think I would like that Sevvie." At those few words, Severus became noticeably ecstatic.

"You promise? You're really going to go? You're not just joking are you?" The young man's exuberance made James smile.

"Yes, I promise. Don't you need to talk to your parents though?" Severus shook his head and peered out the window.

"It's doubtful my parents will say a word to me the entire vacation. I'm a failure to them so they will not want to be around me. We don't even have the same dinner hours or dining rooms." James held him tighter at that comment.

"I'm sorry they treat you that way. They don't even know what a beautiful child and soul they've shepherded into this world. It's awful and they need to know you're much more special than they give you credit for. If for nothing else, you're one of the few Slytherins that isn't a complete jerk. You're so different from them. You don't show the tainting they've got. You're pure. I don't know why you were placed in Slytherin but I know that the moment I saw you being sorted, I'd wished you were Gryffindor. I was disappointed when you'd gone where you did. I'm just glad we've been given a chance." Severus never ceased to be amazed at the romantic his love was. This man could charm anyone and was relieved that he was the only one the young man wanted. He turned to face the man that spoke all these wonderful words.

"Do you mean that?" Severus softly kissed him with his pouty lips when the other man nodded.

"I meant what I said and then some. I don't know if I could have handled not being near you much longer around the time you'd broken up with Lucius. I thought I would have to have a duel like in those muggle cowboy movies." James chuckled softly at his joke and the unmasked confusion only one who's never truly been exposed to the non-magical world would show.

"Such strange customs." Severus still showed a fair amount of confusion.

"They would say the same thing about this world darling one. Most people wouldn't believe this part of the world even existed. Those that are muggles and know it are strictly divided by the whole 'love it/hate it' thing. It's hard to understand all those quibbles. A lot of the time it falls down to jealousy." Severus nodded, taking in the comment fully.

"I think there would be much along those lines here. There seem to be as many people that love muggles as hate them. My father often says nasty things about them whenever I'm around him. There's no reason for his hatred, he just does. I think it has to do with his interests," he sighed.

"Well, soon enough you'll be out of your father's home. I'll graduate at the end of this year and then you could always come stay with me. If you do that, you'd never have to see them again. Ever." Severus just sighed out of contentment and placed his head on his shoulder.

"That sounds more wonderful than you could ever believe. I would do almost anything to get out of that house and you would be a wonderful person to be with." He wrapped his arms around James who did the same with Severus.

"I figured as much. I would come back here and teach as well. So we wouldn't have to worry about not being together. Dumbledore has already asked me about that." Severus sighed softly and nodded.

"It's getting late, though, so we'd better get some rest. We both have class in the morning and they all have exams," James kissed him softly on the lips, "I love you."

Severus snuggled into his arms and mumbled, "I love you too," as he fell into the arms of sleep.
