Another Severitus challenge response. But this one
is a one-shot thing. Yes, I recognize my own insanity. Thanks for
being concerned. Annnddd, this entire thing is written out!! It's,
if you guys care to know, 50 typed pages. Yes, 50. *ahem* It's a
lot. And it does have an ending..but, kinda pointless.
The following morning, Harry was out of the watchful eye of Madam Pomphrey just in time for Herbology. At least it wasn't Potions, Harry's inner voice told him. The Gryffindor seventh years were waiting outside the green house, eyeing familiar looking plants, and waiting for Professor Sprout to explain the project. As it turned out, they were to plant mandrakes as a sort of review before delving into anything more dangerous. Harry and Ron had forgotten nearlth eveything they'd been taught in second year about the sour little plants, but Hermione hadn't. She handed over heavy gloves to her friends and they started to work. "I'm bloody glad that's over with," Ron commented, stretching his arms behind his back. "Why didn't the second years do that?" "Because they haven't even begun to get near the topic. Come on, we're going to be late for lunch." "The only good thing about having double periods first thing is that they are always followed by lunch," Ron stage whispered to Harry. "And we never forget lunch!" The red head patted his stomach with a huge grin and followed Hermione into the Great Hall. Harry laughed and also followed his friends inside. "Oy! Harry! Congrats!" Colin Creevey yelled from down the Gryffindor table. "Congrats? On what?" Harry mouthed. "Potter," Professor McGonagall said severely. "A word, if you will." "Ah, sure Professor." Harry followed the austere professor out and waited, wondering what he had done in less than twenty four hours that required his Head of House to say something. "As you're well aware, we're captainless for this upcoming Quidditch season. However, through unanimous vote last night, the team elected you captain. Congratulations." She waited a moment before adding, "Run Slytherin into the ground." Then she walked off, leaving a very shocked Harry behind her. "Quidditch...captain," he mumbled, sitting back down next to Ron some minutes later. The Weasley grinned and clapped him on the back. Ron was Keeper since Wood had left. Colin Creevey and his brother Dennis were the Beaters. Ginny, a fourth year, and a third year were the Chasers. The team wasn't as good as the team with Oliver as captain and the twins as Beaters, but it had potential. "Yeah. Voted last night while you were out in the Hospital Wing." "Obviously," was all Harry said before eating lunch. He was still absorbing the fact.
On the day before the Slytherin/Ravenclaw quidditch game, Harry was summoned to Dumbledore's office. Harry gave his friends an odd look and left. The last time this had happened, he had been informed that he was to be placed under the Fidelius charm and spend the summer away from his friends. He wondered what interesting turn of events led to this summons. When he walked through the opened oak door, Harry was greeted by a head of platinum blonde hair. Then Harry registered that his father was consoling the boy as he tried desperately not to cry. Remus was in the corner, providing silent support and keeping Rylie quiet. So, naturally, Harry headed to the corner and took his baby sister from his adopted father. "Harry, you may want to sit for this," Remus said softly. Dumbledore had just finished his lemon drop and looked as though he was ready to begin the impromtu meeting. Harry edged into a seat and let Rylie suck his finger. "Mr. Malfoy, Mr. Potter, there is some rather startling news that you two are entitled to. Harry, obviously Mr. Malfoy here is distressed...we have recently recieved news that both his parents have been murdered. And, as such, he is to stay with his legal gaurdian." "What does this have to do with me?" Harry asked, a bit impatiently. "I'm his legal gaurdian," Severus said softly. "Draco's my godson, and Narcissa, in one of her few moments of lucidity made sure that I would gain custody of Draco before anyone else." "What does scarface have anything to do with my parents dead?" Draco asked. It seemed as though he had gotten over his tears. "I'm his legal gaurdian, as well," Severus said again. "However, Harry is my son. Through certain events last summer, we found that out. Naturally, I've got custody of him rather than those abomidable muggles. Before either one of you springs, this does mean you're going to have to actually get along." "DAD!" Harry shouted at the same time Draco shouted, "UNCLE!" Then Rylie started wailing from Harry's arms. She had been jolted awake when he sprung up and shouted. "Neither one of you has a class this afternoon, so you're going to stay up here until you can work out your differences," Remus told the two boys, taking his daughter from Harry. "Why do I have to listen to you, werewolf?" Draco asked haughtily. Harry snorted as his father's eyes flashed. Strike number one against Draco. The Unbreakable, It Doesn't Matter If You're Mad Enough To Become a Mad Hermit Rule is that you didn't called Remus werewolf like it were an insult. Which, of course, Draco did. Severus took a deep breath before making an attempt to calmly say, "He is my mate and has every right and authority over you as I do. And I never want to heard that you ever called Remus werewolf again. Understand?" "Yes, sir," Draco said. That voice was the scary one used to intimidate the first years. "Now, we're going to leave you alone. Snap once for lunch, twice for dinner. We'll check your progess." Severus and Remus and Dumbledore left. "Well..Potter...or are you a Snape now?" "Potter, legally. Snape, mentally," Harry said quickly. Then he turned to study the carpet. Draco raised an eyebrow before starting his own in-depth study of the carpet. Then, "Do you really dislike Dad?" "Professor Snape? No." "No, I mean Remus." "You call Remus 'Dad'?" "He adotped me over the summer while I was five... botched potion and all," Harry explained to the confused look. "When I was five it seemed like a good idea." "Well...no. Not really. Did Uncle Severus really give birth to that baby?" Draco asked, interested. "Yeah. You didn't notice he looked...fatter last spring?" Harry replied. He thought that Severus' huge stomach was obvious, despite the large robes. Draco shook his head. "Well...he was. So, you staying with us for real?" "I s'pose. According to Dumbledore, my mum and dad froze their accounts for me until I'm 21...and Uncle Sev's my legal gaurdian until I'm 23. They don't trust me not to blow all the money away, I assume." Draco's nose wrinkled at this. "Does this mean we're like...brothers?" "Kind of, I guess." Harry grinned. "This means you get to help change Rylie's nappies." Draco facefaulted and shook his head vigorously. "Oh yes. House rule: everyone helps with the baby!...Do you think we should let them back in since we're talking?" "What?" "Dad hasn't left that door since we've been locked in. He's afraid we're going to murder each other." Harry stood up and shook Draco's hand. "To new beginnings?" "New beginnings," the blonde agreed
